Join us for our latest Merienda Talk with Cemelli de Aztlán (Lecturer & Community Organizer) as we explore our original “Chicano Power!: A Force for Change and Progress in El Paso” exhibit. This informal discussion will dive into the spiritual dimension of El Movimiento (the Chicano Movement) and will look specifically at the Aztec/Mexica concept of Nahui Ollin and El Plan Espiritu de Aztlán, the pro-indigenist manifesto advocating Chicano nationalism and self-determination for Mexican Americans. De Aztlán will also share how ‘la lucha sigue’ (the struggle continues). Participants will be encouraged to share their own thoughts, ideas, and reflections. “Chicano Power! A Force for Change and Progress” (open through January 28, 2023) is an original exhibit created by the El Paso Museum of History. The exhibit explores the Chicano Movement locally from the late 1960s through the 1980s. Topics include the fight for fair housing, anti-war protests, solidarity with global movements for equity, and more. This program is made possible in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities … Merienda Talks are a free ongoing series at the El Paso Museum of History that explore current exhibits through informal conversation with experts. In Mexico, “merienda” is a time to share conversation with friends over a bite to eat. In the spirit of merienda, our talks bring the public and professionals together to discover exhibits through discussion
