Magoffin Home: Pinch Pot Kit Making

Each October, the Texas Historical Commission celebrates Texas Archeology Month. This is a statewide effort that encourages Texans to explore, appreciate, and learn about the rich history and cultural heritage that lie beneath our feet. Through hands-on activities, educational programs, demonstrations, exhibits, and community events, Texas Archeology Month helps connect people of all ages with the stories of the past. Here at the Magoffin Home State Historic Site, we're excited to be part of this annual celebration by creating and distributing more than 1,000 free pinch pot kits throughout October. These popular kits provide a fun, hands-on way for children and families to learn about archeology while creating a simple clay vessel inspired by pottery-making traditions that have existed for thousands of years. To help reach our goal, we are seeking volunteers to assist with assembling the kits during our Pinch Pot Assembly Session on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Magoffin Home Visitor Center, 1117 Magoffin Ave., El Paso, Texas 79901. Whether you can help for part of the morning or stay for the entire event, your support will help make Texas Archeology Month a memorable experience for families across our community.
