This September, join us under the stars in Madeline Park for a family-friendly adaptation of Shakespeare’s most romantic Comedy! As You Like It follows Rosalind as she flees from her aunt’s persecution to the Forest of Arden. Accompanied by her cousin Celia and the clown Touchstone, Rosalind disguises herself as a young man and sets out seeking refuge. In the wilds, they cross paths with a banished duke, a shepherd in the throes of passion, and the melancholy Jaques who pontificates on the human condition with his famous speech, “All the world’s a stage.” While in her boyish identity as Ganymede, Rosalind eventually encounters the steadfast Orlando and learns that he has fallen madly in love with… Rosalind! As Ganymede, the quick-witted heroine becomes a tutor to Orlando, teaching him to forget his love and move on. Little does Orlando know that these lessons are really built to test his passion. As their lessons become more outlandish and comical, Orlando never guesses that his young tutor is really his true love in disguise. How does Shakespeare resolve this tangled web? Come to the festival and find out. The Madeline Park Family Shakespeare Festival runs September 23, 24, 30 and October 1st. The festival begins at 6pm with a crafts fair and preshow activities, followed by the live performance of As You Like It ending at 8pm. The performances are free to all audiences with a suggested donation. Bring a picnic blanket, lawn chair, snacks, and your sense of humor!
