Auditions - Dracula Directed by Rebecca Condra Performances October 14 – 30, 2022 AUDITIONS will consist of script reading and improvisations. Prepared monologues welcomed. Character Descriptions DRACULA: (25-50) Must transform from old man to young man. Character has graceful flourished movements, a harsh metallic whisper and slight Transylvanian accent. Dracula is hostile and gloomy, diabolical and smooth. He is mesmerizing, powerful, and elegant. Dracula is intelligent yet childlike in his purpose. Must be able to laugh in various tones, make animalistic sounds, and cry out in pain and terror. Must be comfortable with close physical contact and sensuality. Must be comfortable with heavy makeup, possibly long wig, fangs, contacts, and fake blood. MINA: (18-25) Young, pure and sweet, devoted to her fiancé Jonathan. Mina is intelligent and focused. She is both a Victorian and New Woman. She is cursed after drinking Dracula’s blood and is privy to Dracula’s thoughts and movements afterwards. Slight British accent. Must be able to cry and scream in terror. Must be comfortable with close physical contact and sensuality. JONATHAN HARKER: (18-30) An ambitious, ethical young man who is the first to be under Dracula’s dark influence. A true gentleman, he is devoted to Mina and is driven by his love for her to destroy Dracula. Slight British accent. Must be comfortable with close, physical contact and sensuality. VAN HELSING: (50-70) Old, wise and courageous, Van Helsing has an open mind for mixing beliefs in both science and mysticism. He is an expert in vampire lore. Speaks in broken English with a slight Dutch accent. Van Helsing is the force that bravely and methodically leads the band of young people who ultimately destroy Dracula. Van Helsing is John Seward’s mentor. DR. JOHN SEWARD: (25-35) In charge of the insane asylum near Dracula’s home. Intelligent, patient, caring and stoic. He is in love with, but rejected by, the pretty and charming Lucy Westenra. Despite her rejection he remains deeply devoted to her. Slight British accent. He is Van Helsing’s star student and protégé who forms strong bonds with the group challenging Dracula. LUCY WESTENRA: (18-25) Flirtatious, young, pretty, and charming, Lucy is Mina’s best friend who is transformed into a vampire by Dracula which makes her extremely and mysteriously ill. She must transform from a lovely coquettish girl to a disturbing menacing sensual vampire. Must be able to cry and scream in terror as a human, must be able to change voice and scream in pain as a vampire. Must be comfortable with close physical contact and sensuality. Must be comfortable with heavy makeup, possibly fangs, contacts, and fake blood. Slight British accent. RENFIELD: (25-50) Insane, unhinged, neurotic, yet agreeable, gentle, and intellectual. Renfield is Dracula’s servant and foil. Renfield displays the unsettling side of a killer psyche. Renfield eats flies, spiders, and rats to drain their blood and life to become more powerful. Slight British accent. Must be able to meet physical demands of the role, crawling on all fours, jumping, and contorting, crying and shouting, having mental breakdowns. TWO VIXENS: (18-30) Female undead, sensual, seductive, and sinister. Must be able to writhe, crawl, slither, hiss and whisper. Need to laugh and scream diabolically. Must be comfortable with close physical contact and sensuality. Must be comfortable with heavy makeup, possibly fangs, contacts, and fake blood. ATTENDANT & SERVANT: (15-40) Small roles as insane asylum attendant and household servant.
