Bring your own denim or use free scrap denim garments provided by Mid-West Textile LLC and The Vault to create one-of-a-kind fashion pieces with free paint, decals, and trim. Sierra Phoenix (Whole Lota Denim) will be providing tips and tricks on how to best transform your denim items into unique statement pieces. This event is free and all supplies are included. Come celebrate the spirit of upcycling and take fashion into your own hands! This program is generously supported by Mid-West Textile LLC and The Vault. About Sierra Phoenix From her bio on wldmusic.com “…the idea to start up my own business sparked to me when I knew I wasn't going to continue going to skool. for y'all who are wondering why its called "Whole Lota Denim" it was originally known as a denim boutique where I would hand paint designs on all sorts of denim . my calling is art, and I figured you don't need a degree to pursue a career in that industry. anywho for the launch of the boutique my sisters & i came to the idea to bring live music especially since there's nothing fun to do for an all ages crowd. once the night ended the boutique did good & the ppl had a killa time! we ended having another show Oct 30th 2021 and that one was literally a sold out show so thats when we knew we had to pursue the music venue. art was kool but working w artists, promoting & marketing intrigued us more so we pursued it and here we are now! super grateful and blessed this fell into my hands, i get to work w my bestfriends & my weekends are never lame!” About “Desert Couture” “Desert Couture: Fashioning Two Centuries in the Southwest” highlights the El Paso Museum of History’s diverse collection of textiles, accessories, and garments, which span from the antebellum period up to the mid-late 20th century. The arrival of the railroad at the end of the 19th century transformed the Paso del Norte region into a commercial crossroads, leading to a boom in population, industry, and labor needs in what had previously been a small, predominantly Mexican town. Individuals from Europe, Syria, and Lebanon migrated to El Paso in search of opportunities and brought with them new styles, customs, and tastes. Department stores in Downtown El Paso like The Popular Dry Goods, The White House, and others formed a hub for imported fashions that advertised to a growing population of customers across the Southwest and northern Mexico. At these stores, people could shop the latest fashion trends from the United States and Europe, purchase ready-to-wear pieces for daily use, and commission custom-made clothing for special occasions. “Desert Couture” will highlight the merchants, designs, fabrication, and trends that defined fashion for generations of El Pasoans.Time
