Exhibition Closing Celebration: Still We Rise

Start Date: Mar 16, 2024 End Date: Mar 16, 2024 From: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Free Event - Join us on March 16th for the closing of “Still We Rise: El Paso's Black Experience." During the closing event for this exhibit, we will be hosting a Black-owned business market, a panel on the past and present work of Black institutions in El Paso, performances, and more! Exhibition Closing Celebration Schedule: 10 AM – 4:30 PM – Black-owned business market; craft for kids Celebrate throughout the day by shopping our Black-owned vendor market! Food, fashion, and more will be available throughout the day both inside and outside the museum. Visitors of all ages can also get hands-on with crafts on our back patio. 11 AM – Ron Stallworth PresentationHear from El Pasoan Mr. Ron Stallworth about the experience that inspired Black Klansman (later adapted into a film directed by Spike Lee) as well as his upcoming book The Gangs of Zion, which sees him facing off against facing off against skinheads and white Crips in Utah. 12 PM – Buffalo Soldier Motorcycle Club Presentation Join the El Paso Chapter of the Buffalo Soldier Motorcycle Club for a presentation on the history of the Buffalo Soldiers in El Paso and their larger role in the history of the United States military. 1 PM – Past, Present, Future Roundtable Discussion Moderated by Micheal Davis (Estine Eastside Barbershop), this talk brings together the McCall Neighborhood Center, NAACP, Panhellenic Council, business leaders, and educators to discuss the past, present, and future of El Paso’s Black community. 3 PM – Performances Celebrate El Paso’s artists with this talent showcase. Three performers will share short sets highlighting different forms and styles of performance. 4 PM – Closing Ceremony To close out the day, we invite the public to join us for final remarks and performances celebrating what’s coming up next.
