Native American Heritage Month
Join us in celebration of Native American Heritage Month at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology on Saturday, November 25 starting at 12 PM. -12:00 PM to 1:30 PM - Arts and Crafts with Ysleta del Sur Pueblo. Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is a U.S. federally recognized Native American tribe and sovereign nation. It was established in 1682 by the Tribal community known as "Tigua.” Stop by the museum lobby and learn about their art and traditions. -2:00 PM to 3:30 PM - Presenting the Manso Nation, a talk with Cruz Camargo. Cruz Natividad Camargo is the son of late Natividad Camargo, one of the last known full-blooded members of the Manso Nation. As an Elder of the Nation, he is proud of his legacy and to share it with the general public. Cruz will be sharing Manso traditions, beliefs, dances and stories, passed on to him by his father. Cruz will also talk about their medicine wheel, explaining how it works. The public will be able to interact, ask questions and learn their spirit totem, affinity color, and mineral through the medicine wheel. Then, join us for our annual Native American Storytelling event with Alex Mares at 6:30 PM at the museum’s gazebo. Alex is a formally trained Native American storyteller and interpreter whose cultural background includes Diné, Pueblo, Jicotec and Spanish. He will be sharing Coyote stories meant to be told only during the winter months by Navajo, Pueblo and Apache tribes. Participants will gather around a campfire and hot chocolate will be served.
